17th Annual C.S.F. and Heartlight Aerobics Youth Fitness Expo Donor and Sponsor Info

We are now planning our 17th Annual C.S.F. and Heartlight Aerobics Youth Fitness Expo!! Heartlight is a project of California School Fitness,a 501(c) non-profit organization that works in partnership with San Diego City Schools' Department of Physical Education to provide affordable youth fitness programs for boys and girls in local elementary schools.

Our programs are offered at over 100 elementary schools throughout San Diego. They help meet the health and fitness needs of thousands of children, many of whom attend schools that offer little to no physical activity or education for their students.

Our expo, which is held at Balboa Park, will offer fitness activities as well as exhibits and performances by over 1200 children form our Heartlight classes. Expected attendance will be in the thousands as our students and the community enjoy the day with their families.

The expo is being held to fund projects of C.S.F including our scholarship fund for low income students in our after school youth fitness programs, special programs during the "Say No to Drugs" week, and physical fitness testing for the President's Physical Fitness Award. ALL proceeds go to support these programs for the next school year.

We need your help! As part of our fundraiser event, which will be held on March 17th, we hold a raffle. We are in need of raffle prizes for our kids. Some of the prizes that have been donated in the past include tickets to local amusement parks, CD's and DVD's, toys and gift certificates to various restaurants and businesses around town. All of our prizes must be child/family friendly. Please consider donating a prize.

Also, if anyone can and would like to donate money for our scholarship fund in any amount you can send a check or money order to our main office at 3019 Serbian Place. San Diego, Ca 92117. Please make the payment out to Heartlight.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available!

Your donation will benefit over 5,000 local children who participate in our programs each year. Please contact me with any questions.

Thank you for supporting youth fitness in our community!

Sincerely,
Shelly Guberek

Qualcomm 2011

Dear Heartlight Aerobics Families!

Heartlight students have been invited to perform at halftime at the San Diego State University (SDSU) football game on Saturday, November 5th! This will be Heartlight’s fifth performance at an SDSU game; the game is held in QUALCOMM Stadium! This is a very exciting opportunity for our students!

We hope every student will perform with us! Heartlight is seated in the first 12 rows of Field Level. The children will enter the field directly from their seats. However, before giving your child permission to perform, please understand that parents must stay in the stands before/during and after their child’s performance. Volunteers will escort the children to the field and return them to their parents in their assigned seat section immediately following the performance. For the safety of the children, parents must remain in their seats.

Game time is 5:00pm. We will be performing at half time. Please be at Qualcomm Stadium before the start of the game because Heartlight enters through one gate only, and the line will be long, so please arrive early. Our performance on field is 4 minutes long. We will rehearse the routine in class; your Heartlight Teacher will lead the children during the show. Heartlight students are not required to memorize the routines! We expect over 1,500 students to be performing on the field.

Heartlight student’s ticket is FREE, and the Aztecs are offering reduced price admission for Heartlight families and friends -$6.00 adults & children. Children under age 2 free. No tickets are available in Heartlight classes, they must be purchased over the telephone or in person from Aztecs box office. This year, Heartlight will have assigned seats, within the color sections.

Concessions will be available for purchase before & during the game. Certificates will be distributed at the entrance gate after the 3rd quarter. SDSU is hosting this wonderful opportunity for our students; please show your thanks and courtesy by staying until the end of the game.

DATE: Saturday, November 5th
TIME: 5:00 PM (please allow ample time for parking)
DRESS: Blue Heartlight T-shirt ($12, available in Heartlight class)
White or light colored shorts/pants, white socks & any color athletic shoes
After you return your permission slip to your Heartlight Teacher, you will receive:

1. Instructions for ordering tickets over the telephone or at the SDSU/Aztec Box Office at Qualcomm Stadium. Tickets are NOT available online.

2. Directions to Qualcomm Stadium, and parking information. Parking in the lot @ Qualcomm cost $10.

Information for other parking options will be sent home after signed permission slips are returned.

PLEASE TURN IN PERMISSION SLIPS: TO YOUR HEARTLIGHT CLASS BY 10/24. Call (619)663-6312 for more info.

How to start Heartlight at your kids' school

Heartlight is a non-profit after-school aerobic-dance program started in 1985 which focuses on teaching children that exercise is fun. Classes are taught in three 7-week sessions during the school year and various summer programs are also offered. In general, class is held once a week, each class is an hour long.

Our dance classes are currently offered at elementary schools throughout San Diego County including schools in the San Diego Unified, La Mesa Spring Valley, Cajon Valley, Lakeside/Santee and Chula Vista school districts as well as in many private schools and some charter schools. Most schools allow us to use their multi-purpose room, however many schools hold Heartlight outdoors as well. We can hold the class anywhere that works best for your school.

At the end of each session we put on a program-wide performance. We have three performances a year: one at Qualcomm Stadium for an SDSU Aztec Football halftime show around November, at the Annual Family Fun & Fitness Day in Balboa Park around March and finally the San Diego County Fair in June. You can find a short recording of our most recent performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hgWtpWVw-g&feature=player_embedded

We are not a precision dance program, our focus is to keep things fun while emphasizing the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle. Some of the benefits for children who participate in Heartlight are: greater academic achievement, increased self control, positive social contact, less delinquent behavior, better classroom behavior, less anxiety & depression, less hostility, better memory, better mood, greater initiative, greater independence, greater perception of competence & good body image.

If you have any questions or are interested in starting this program feel free to contact me anytime at (619) 663-6312 or via e-mail at heartlightshelly@gmail.com
